Maud Simmons was born and raised in New York City, where she studied painting and drawing at the Art Student's League. She went on to earn her B.F.A. in painting from The Rhode Island School of Design.
Simmons moved to Los Angeles to pursue a diverse visual career. She has exhibited her work in gallery shows, as well as painting murals, film sets, and billboards. She is represented in the Los Angeles County Museum Rental and Sales Gallery, and Contemporary Art Resource Gallery in Silverlake, CA.
Her personal work is as diverse as the commercial images she creates. She has completed a series of "forbidden" paintings exploring images of food and alcohol. Simmons says "I am a binge painter. I fixate on the cat and paint it for 3 years, then switch to jello for the next two." Her most recent work is completely abstract. I am finding tremendous freedom in letting go of representation. After 20 years of painting peaches and peppers and people. Go figure
